Corpus Christi Army Depot and STAR4Defense have been working together executing training efforts since 2006. As a result of environmental laws, OSHA regulations, and air quality emission standards, the STAR4Defense Aerospace Spray Painter Certification Course was developed.
The goal at CCAD is to reduce hazardous waste, rework, material cost while improving coating application quality and safety to produce a cost efficient and effective product. CCAD sees the use of the VirtualPaint and certification as a way to maintain their high standards and the AS 9110 status, as well as meeting NESHAP regulations as they become more stringent.

Larry Jones
Paint Shop Supervisor: Retired
Certified July 7, 2009
After painting for 40 years and working at Corpus Christi Army Depot for 30 years, Larry has seen many training classes. At CCAD, Larry paints helicopters, DoD equipment, and helicopter parts. His favorite thing about his job is being able to support the troops. Larry’s interests and hobbies outside of work include scuba diving and sailing.
As a Paint Shop Supervisor, Larry believes the Iowa Waste Reduction Center has created a painter and training course that is up-to-date. According to Larry, “[STAR4Defense training has] accelerated the ability to train painters from 6 months for primer to painting top coat in only 6 weeks.” His advice to any certified instructor is to keep the class exciting and to avoid reading from the textbook and PowerPoints.
