STAR4Defense Certification
The STAR4Defense certified training program focuses on training military painters to use coating, equipment, and techniques that are absolutely necessary whether it's to prevent corrosion on a HUMVEE or camouflage a vehicle. Instructor Spotlight
Tobyhanna's New STAR4Defense Instructor, Mark Brennan
Mark Brennan has been working at Tobyhanna Army Depot for 10 years. As a paint leader, Mark was certified as a STAR4Defense Coatings Technician back in November 2009. Mark just successfully completed his first class as instructor with 6 students certified.
His favorite part of supervising the course was to be able to work with the students on the VirtualPaint. "It makes them stop and think about what they are doing and hopefully they take that back to their shop," he says. The course utilizes three kinds of learning; classroom, in-the-booth, and virtual reality with the VirtualPaint. Mark says each portion is beneficial to the course. In the classroom students were able to learn the history and importance of properly applying CARC. In-the-booth, Mark was able to show them first hand their application mistakes and how to correct them, while using the VirtualPaint makes them think about what they are going to do. It helps to understand how to be more consistent with the applied mil thickness and how they can properly apply CARC.
